It is hard to believe it is Friday; the days go so quickly! Prior to my week of leave, we had a very busy mid-July. With the Rosewall Market held, we saw this as an opportunity for an ‘Open Day’ by setting up an information stall and providing promotional material about the various Foodskil markets. Our presence in the community is really starting to get noticed and each week there have been more members of the community attending these markets as well as the 2&5 Shop in Labuan Square. Speaking of the 2&5 Shop, don’t forget to drop by to say hello and pick up your fresh tub of Fruit Salad!

July also saw the Fresh Food Schools Market Stand commence on Tuesday’s at St Thomas Aquinas School, Plume Street, Norlane and on Wednesday’s at Northern Bay College, Hendy Street, Corio. These markets have been very successful with good sales, happy  customers and lots of smiles! At the first St Thomas Aquinas School Market, Rose de Kook brought seniors from Dorothy Thompson centre and Amanda Stirret made a pumpkin curry, which was loved by all. To learn some of Amanda’s cooking secrets and recipes keep an eye out for Amanda’s cooking demonstrations, which will occur once a month at the School markets. Her first cooking demo will be at St Thomas School Market on Tuesday, 14th August.

On another note, we are always looking for more volunteers to join our ‘food_skill army’! Anyone and everyone can volunteer their time. Volunteering is a great way to get involved with your local community and meet new people. It is also a great way to learn new skills and have some fun! Perhaps you only have an hour to spare, a day, or even a week. As w ell as on-going volunteer positions, there are also one-off tasks that we do need help with.
